Delores Fisher's San Diego Comic Fest 2019 Adventures

Delores Fisher and "moon "photo op"

Such fun!!! Celebrating a serious topic with several light touches, this year's San Diego Comic Fest was dedicated to the historic world culture changing Apollo 11 moon landing 50, yes, 50 years ago https://airandspace.si.edu/explore-and-learn/topics/apollo/apollo-program/landing-missions/apollo11.cfm

A venue change to the Four Points by Sheraton hotel did not deter Comic Fest 2019 goers. Attendance soared! The now much coveted Fest T shirts sold out on the first day.

Many of you know the story behind the creation of San Diego Comic Fest.https://www.sdcomicfest.org/   Smaller and more intimate in scale, San Diego Comic Fest allows for fan, presenter interaction on a less hectic level. I enjoy talking to followers of my work as well as networking with other presenters. This year, I presented with  Ian P. Duckett pop culture mavin, cosplayer, disability advocate, and podcaster.

Our official panel presentation description is:

Since the later half of the twentieth century, African American and African Diaspora film actors have portrayed extra-terrestrials, pivotal characters (mythological or "real"), minor exotic diversions, and have given voice to animation personas from the big screen to video games. Time travelling through select TV shows, box office hits and grade B- to C+ films, pulp-culture mavin Ian Duckett and blogger-lecturer Delores Fisher will discuss several African American actors and their characters' visual representations in genres such as Sci-fi, Superhero, Ethno-horror, Fantasy, Video games, and TV shows. Ian Duckett will discuss Ivan Dixon, Roscoe Lee Brown, Angela Bassett, and Whoopi Goldberg while Delores Fisher will discuss Rae Dawn Chong, Gina Torres, Idris Elba, and Laurence Fishburne.

A few days later, we posed for this photo. We continued to discuss our research and began to explore other possible panel ideas for the future. This eventually evolved into an ongoing topic exploration late into the evening. Our conversations with several other Comic Fest 2019 cosplayers, panelists, and tech crew evolved into a raucous fun filled project proposal for Comic Fest 2020. .

Of course Magic Wheel chair was represented by a really amazing wheelchair cosplay makeover for a young cosplayers dream chair.

The traditional Cafe was in full Moon walk celebratory display.

At the Jessi Jumanji Afro Futurism panel,  panel discussions, I had a photo op with a visiting Wakandan warrier woman
Black Panther Wakanda Warrior Photo Op

And, I had a really informative interaction with international artist Jessie Jumanji. Many of you may have seen her art exhibits here not only here in the states, but also in Europe.https://jessijumanji.com/collections/afrofuturism

I talked to many writers and artists for several minutes without being rushed. I talked with the prolific and international cartoon artist/writer David Garcia.  https://www.deviantart.com/pandakhan-davegarcia  Amazing stories emerged.  Dave Garcia's new Shadow of the West comic book explores American wild West stories with a monsterous twist!

Writers  J. Dianne Dotson and Tone Toni Milazzo shared a table.

Rodney Anderson's work caught my attention several years ago. I have one of his first signed lithographs. His artistic creativity keeps expanding. He continues to freelance as a comic book artist and also now teaches and inspires others who want to become professional in the field. http://www.kalabasharts.com/rodney-anderson

Oh yea . . . I may possibly be working with Who Con  and at least two possible student led panels at the upcoming 2019 San Diego Who Con this coming October http://www.sdwhocon.com/

I also got an interview with the hip hop culture inspired writer and graphic artist Corwyn Matthew.
For those of you ordering his books online, be patient. Some vedors are already sold out for his latest venture that he discusses in our interview.

He's a fan of the Ice Cube Friday film franchise, especially the Christmas one!

Comic Fest 2019 was a blast!

See you at Comic Con!

Part of A Legacy:Calvary Baptist Church San Diego

Those of you following me on Twitter and at The Center For World Music: https://centerforworldmusic.org/about-us/board/ know that I was a pianist at Calvary Baptist Church in San Diego California back in the day. Charles Ray was the organist/pianist, professor Jean Wesson was the music director. I also played accompanied the Calvary Baptist Church Youth Choir under the direction of Carol Durgan.  The church was known as Second Baptist in 1889 on the corner of  1st and B street. It was moved to  the corner of  then Crosby Street, https://www.calvarybcsd.org/history/   now known as 719 Cesar E. Chavez Pkwy. and at this time is following the leadership of pastor Dr. Emanuel Whipple Sr. And this Sunday in September 2012 Calvary Baptist Church had a Youth Choir Reunion Concert at 3:30. The concert was a musical extravaganza! This post is going viral so I must do a 2024 update: Hello Dr. Buchanon. Thank you for reading my post from 2012. I am honored!!!! Jellyfish around San Diego Embarcadero and Broadway Pier

Delores Fisher Blogger on an early Morning stroll Jellyfish are visiting the San Diego CA. Broadway Pier and Embarcadero again. Jellyfish appeared to swarm in this same area in 2012. Although I posted about the Black Nettle Jellyfish in July 2012, this was the first time since that year that I have seen any type of jellyfish in such numbers at the pier. http://carpenoctum2.blogspot.com/2012/08/black-sea-nettle-jellyfish-at.html   However, multiple sightings of similar and other jellyfish have increased since 2012. Several have been posted on youtube. 2015 has been an odd weather year for San Diego with heat and odd rainfall days (despite our drought). It is possible that temperature shifts are part of the reason why jellyfish are in our bays and near our beaches.  Our October weather has been unseasonably hot this early fall, similar to temperatures during earlier 2015 seasonal sightings.  Shannon Handy reported on a North County swarm of Sail jellyfish in May.

Professor Richard Thompson                       San Diego State University School of Music and Dance Professor Richard Thompson Composer/Pianist Exciting news!!!!!!! Richard Thompson has consented to an interview to discuss his new chamber opera: "Mask in the Mirror." An excerpt from his official bio states,"His compositions combine European
