San Diego International Fringe Festival 2018

Hello all you 2018 International Fringe Festival Frolickers! Happy World Fringe Day! (July 11th) Keep playing and enjoying progressive artistic creativity at its most extreme humanity embracing expression.
Delores Fisher Fringe Festival San Diego 2018

This year I attended the beginning festivities, at the Spreckels Theater on Broadway, for our San Diego International Fringe Festival. The Spreckels historic stage, the smaller Geoffrey Off Broadway stage, and the Lyceum Theater stage complex were the festival's performance center with various outlying venues including Writer's Ink, Starlight Bowl Upper Palisade, the Bristol Hotel, and adult entertainment space Les Girls.  Tijuana again hosted Bi-National performances at the Avenida Revolucion in Mexico.

Fellow Fringe supporters and I joined with performers for this years opening.

We enjoyed  Assemblyman Todd Gloria speech about the arts in San Diego. For those who don't know, we are continuing to grow as a national theater center. As Assemblyman Gloria read
and presented the official opening proclamation to San Diego Fringe International's executive Director Kevin Patterson,  we all clapped with excitement. Fringe 2018!!!!!!!!

I even got in on the ribbon cutting!

Kevin Patterson off to take care of pre-show opening details. I got a chance to say a quick hello; then, off he went!

It is really cool to watch San Diego embrace Fringe International artists. Seasoned and neophyte writers, directors, musicians, dancers, singers, and actors work hard on the world circuit as they perform their creative concepts for audience's who might not be able to access their work live without the International Fringe Festival opportunity.Kevin has been promoting Fringe for several years. Here's his story about Fringe in his words:

I saw only two shows this year, due to my heavy rehearsal,  performance, and research schedule. However, both shows provided plenty to blog about. More next week.

Until then . . .Keep Fringing world!!

Starla Lewis Professor Emeritus: A New Year's Gift January 2024 Post 1

We all think about those negative influences that we would all like to forget; yet we often neglect to acknowledge those positive warriors who quietly and compassionately help us shoulder dark toxic angst, while nurturing us back to the light of healthy joy.  This 2024 January post is to celebrate one of the positive life warrior-healers that I cherish. If you have one of these people in your life, did you stop and give God thanks for them? (If you don't have one, prayerfully your life will soon be blessed. If you do and you didn't offer thanks yet---how about doing it now?) In the traditional Black American community, we have a custom known as "Give them their flowers (while they yet live)." Selfless fabulous people have invested quality time and positivity into my life. This first post is a huge thank you/shout out and a huge Kuumba bouquet of red fragrant roses to my community minded sistah-- professor Starla Lewis! Part of A Legacy:Calvary Baptist Church San Diego

Those of you following me on Twitter and at The Center For World Music: https://centerforworldmusic.org/about-us/board/ know that I was a pianist at Calvary Baptist Church in San Diego California back in the day. Charles Ray was the organist/pianist, professor Jean Wesson was the music director. I also played accompanied the Calvary Baptist Church Youth Choir under the direction of Carol Durgan.  The church was known as Second Baptist in 1889 on the corner of  1st and B street. It was moved to  the corner of  then Crosby Street, https://www.calvarybcsd.org/history/   now known as 719 Cesar E. Chavez Pkwy. and at this time is following the leadership of pastor Dr. Emanuel Whipple Sr. And this Sunday in September 2012 Calvary Baptist Church had a Youth Choir Reunion Concert at 3:30. The concert was a musical extravaganza! This post is going viral so I must do a 2024 update: Hello Dr. Buchanon. Thank you for reading my post from 2012. I am honored!!!! For addition...
