Reba McEntire: A Brief Reflection June 2019

Hello to new readers and to my Notesong Blog followers. As a San Diego California pop culture blogger, I know how big Country music is out West. And, for many, line dancing remains a quite popular weekly fun share out here. Some folks back East and in the South might be surprised, but Country Music is one of the most favorite American musical genres in California, has been for quite a while. https://www.wideopencountry.com/12-best-california-country-music-venues/   San Diego California has a variety of Country and Western clubs, large and small from supper clubs, to bars, dance clubs, to live music.  https://www.yelp.com/search?find_desc=country+western+bar&find_loc=San+Diego%2C+CA Of course most of my readers know that one of my long time favorite Country singers is Reba McEntire.        My folks loved country music. It surprises my friends to find out that I was raised listening to the Grand Ol' Opry which by the way is...

Delores Fisher's April Spring 2019 Photo Moments

Hey there everyone! Shout out to Poland, Canada, and France. It's spring time in San Diego California. We  are having rain, sun, and floral super blooms all over the place, poppies, jacaranda trees, and birds of paradise, oh my!  Since I got such a response to some of my previous posts with photo memories, thought I'd do something unusual: instead of sharing my thoughts in words, I decided to post photos and save my blog article about country and western award winning vocalist and host of the American Country Music Awards 2019, Reba McEntire, for next month.                                      Reba McEntire If you hear the fragility, the sadness, and the grit in her voice, know that like us common folks, her life has not been all happiness. Reba McEntire doesn't pretend that it was or is. And when it comes ro San Diego California, according to an interview, McEntire has a ...

BSSO (Black Student Science Organization) at San Diego State University: Hope For Haiti 2019

We humans often forget that it takes time for a region to recuperate from a traumatic event, especially when disaster occurs far from our doors. Earthquakes and hurricanes can be disastrous geological and climatic events that transform a lush, green, countryside into a mud covered wasteland. They can split apart both families and buildings with ease. When that does happen, hope seems like a shadow of joy. Loss and destruction lingers for years. Time heals somewhat. Realization that help is ongoing and that others elsewhere care about more longitudinal support other than "the short term effort" offers comfort. Mentored by humanitarian, scholar, educator Dr. Estralita Martin https://sciences.sdsu.edu/profile/estralita-martin/ , the Black Student Science Organization at San Diego State University in February 2019 continued a long term commitment of partnership with Hope For Haiti as a way to show its solidarity with and appreciation of Haitian resilience.       ...

November 2018 Thanksgiving Pre-thought

Delores Fisher Just a brief hello to thank you for putting us over the 20,000 mark! Special November hello to Ukraine, Brazil, Russia, Canada, and India. Yes, my readers are diverse ... Here in the U.S., Thanksgiving is fast "trotting" onto the holiday scene. We seem, in general, a bit more solemn and contemplative this year due to acts of violence and oppression. Perhaps we are becoming more deeply grateful for blessings in the middle of hurt and pain and confusion, and yes, anger, and frustration, and yet...humility.  Words also can not express our profound acknowledgement of bigger than life natural forces beyond o...

September Pre-holiday Season 2018: A Few Thoughts

Delores Fisher Blogger 2018 Hello to all, especially my longtime readers/followers in Canada, Russia, Brazil, the Seychelles, UK, China, and of course France. As each new year approaches and each year end fades, we as a global people often consider watershed pop culture events that have changed our perceptions. Musician scholar and pop culture critic William Banefield states, "Popular culture allows us to see so many meaningful elements, fixtures, and symbols of our culture. This is the means by which our identities are concretized in many ways."1  Through the lens of this quote, I must say: 2018 has been a very disturbingly interesting year. Aretha Franklin The Voice, The Song, The Life:A Brief Reflection

Notesong readers: On Thursday, August 16th, Aretha Franklin, Queen of Soul died at the age of 76. We have lost so many from her generation on a global scale in the last few years, in politics, theater, music, medicine, literature, engineering and many other fields. Can you sense it, my global readers? An age, an era is coming to its close. I may not pay tribute to all of the people who have impacted my life here in this, our Notesong blog space. Perhaps I will include several chapters in my new book. The following post is a short tribute to Aretha Franklin's life, her talent, and her inspiration to performers who copied a few of her soul stirring vocal and piano licks and carried on her sound to secular and religious audiences. Aretha Franklin's official website has a  treasure chest of additional memories http://www.arethafranklin.net/  I am still quietly grieving . . . THE ANNOUNCEMENT A Twitter (USA) announcement on Monday August 13th informed the world that Gospel...
